Pendergast Elementary School District in Arizona
“Established in 1885, the Pendergast School District started as a small farming community serving 100 students in one school. Their educational philosophy emphasized a ‘family’ approach, with the community, staff, and parents working together to support the academic, social, and emotional growth of students. Today, the district has expanded to cover 20 square miles, serving Phoenix, Glendale, and Avondale communities. With 12 campuses, the district provides quality education to around 8,500 students from preschool through eighth grade.”
Over the past few years, the Pendergast District has faced numerous trials, including a teacher shortage and a change in leadership, which could have easily disrupted their educational mission. Additionally, the district was confronted with the unprecedented impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, imposing immense difficulties on students, staff, and families. Nevertheless, the district’s unwavering resolve and innovative approaches have allowed them to continue thriving.
Despite these challenges, the Pendergast District has exhibited extraordinary resilience, ensuring that every student receives a quality education and the necessary support to overcome obstacles. Through their concerted efforts, they have not only maintained their commitment to excellence but also achieved outstanding academic outcomes.
