Maria Campanario, M.Ed., National DEIB Consultant at Boston Public Schools (retired)
“Maria Campanario, M.Ed. has supported underserved students and leaders from BIPOC and multilingual communities for decades, often giving her own time. Her commitment to social-emotional learning is a way to recognize the funds of knowledge students have and bring to school inspires many of us to continue the work.”
Maria Campanario has more than 40 years of experience as an educator in public schools, university instruction and industry. Campanario has an in-depth understanding of why and how social-emotional learning connects directly to a successful learning environment in general education, special education and bi-lingual education. Few have her passion for supporting students and educators in the important work, ensuring all students know they belong and are deserving of excellence.
Campanario previously lead work with DOJ in Boston Public Schools to provide opportunity for multilingual students to receive additional services. The work she completed continues to inform the work in the district moving forward, even after her retirement. Asked to support the work of publisher (BEC) and national organizations such as ALAS, Maria delivers presentations at conferences across the country on topics of equity and SEL for students from BIPOC communities.
