Just Right Reader Offering Free Literacy Resources to Support Reading Achievement Throughout Texas Schools

On the heels of its decodable books for grades K-2 being named as approved instructional materials for both English and Spanish phonics by the Texas State Board of Education (SBOE), Just Right Reader is launching a Texas pilot program to further support student reading achievement across the state. Districts can now apply to receive Just Right Reader’s personalized Science of Reading Take-Everywhere Literacy Packs™, totaling up to 3,000 books in English and Spanish per district, to help students practice reading both at school and at home.

“With Just Right Reader being included in the state-adopted list of high-quality instructional materials, we are now able to bring our proven literacy resources to classrooms across Texas,” said Sara Rich, founder and CEO of Just Right Reader. “The Texas pilot program provides a great opportunity for districts to try out our Science of Reading Take-Everywhere Literacy Packs™ and see firsthand how they help build phonics skills, engage families in the joy of reading, and accelerate achievement for all students.”

As part of the Texas pilot program, interested districts must complete a short, one-minute online application and participate in a pilot inquiry meeting.

All selected districts will then receive Just Right Reader’s Science of Reading Take-Everywhere Literacy Packs™, which come in multiple levels and are personalized to the unique phonics needs of each student. The packs offer structured phonics practice using texts that students can relate to, as well as several at-home support resources and practice materials that families can access online.

Just Right Reader’s Science of Reading Take-Everywhere Literacy Packs™ include:

  • Science of Reading-based literacy resources in English and Spanish to help teach students particular letter-sound relationships
  • Writing resources to reinforce decoding and writing skills
  • QR codes on each book that parents and caregivers can scan to access fun phonics lessons in English and Spanish
  • Access to an online family hub with research-based activities that motivate students to read and keep reading
  • Backpacks for students to take their reading everywhere!

After undergoing the recent SBOE-governed Instructional Materials Review and Approval (IMRA) process, Just Right Reader’s literacy resources were found to meet 100 percent of the applicable Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) state standards.
