Haydee Burrola, Teacher & Lead DEI Coordinator at Five Keys SFUSD/LAUSD
Haydee Burrola is an educator and activist in Southern California with a commitment to advancing equality in education. Burrola has been an educator for over 25 years. As a Teacher and Lead DEI Coordinator at Five Keys Schools and Programs, Burrola leads efforts for equity in the classroom and in the organization as a whole. Outside of her professional work, she is a strong proponent of social justice and an active member of her Indigenous and greater Los Angeles communities.
Haydee Burrola works at a variety of organizational levels to advance DEI efforts within our large and widespread organization. As one of the leaders of the ABIDE (Advancing Belonging, Inclusion, Diversity, & Equity) Council, Burrola has worked tirelessly to build and uphold a social justice framework that had been previously lacking in our organization. With her work, she has been able to acquire valuable, culturally competent curriculum for the Five Keys, help our organization to provide meaningful support to the Indigenous populations whose land we occupy, and create a newfound space in which employees can seek holistic and genuine support in issues of equity.
Burrola is the backbone of the DEI efforts within the organization, which are essential to serving our diverse and historically marginalized clients and students. Whenever there is a new and effective DEI program at Five Keys, it is usually safe to say that Burrola has had something to do with it. At the academic level, Burrola also works as a teacher at schools in Los Angeles and San Bernardino, where she provides a welcoming and inclusive space for all of her students. She is committed to providing culturally relevant and accurate curriculum and support to her students in and out of the classroom.
