Hebat Abdelbaki, Principal of Stout Middle School in Dearborn, Michigan
Hebat Abdelbaki began her career as a teacher with the Dearborn Public Schools and was appointed Principal of Stout Middle School during 2021. Abdelbaki graduated from the University of Michigan Dearborn with a master’s degree in Education and an ESL endorsement. She also has an Educational Leadership degree from Madonna University.
Hebat Abdelbaki has developed and emphasized incorporation of culturally responsive teaching in the curricula. She leads with the knowledge and skills needed to: mentor minority students and teachers while working collaboratively with the district to provide professional in-service to be responsive to disadvantaged youth. Additionally, Abdelbaki has partnered with businesses such as Ford, Wayne State University and Women Engineers to incorporate STEM at Stout Middle School. Through her leadership she has exposed low SES students to technology, inquiry-based instruction, supporting the development of STEM concepts in secondary, underrepresented students.
Through her leadership and policies, Abdelbaki has raised teacher expectations for disadvantaged students by providing targeted teacher education to ensure that teachers receive the skills and knowledge they need for working in schools with a large population of students from diverse backgrounds. She has developed a supportive working condition conducive to equity and social emotional learning. She leads a school which houses several special education programs. Her understanding and knowledge of the needs of special education students, makes her sensitive and responsive, creating a culture of inclusiveness and acceptance of differences.
